New Years Eve

New Years Eve rolls around this year on the North Fork with a clear sky and bright stars above. My friends have called to check on party plans and transportation needs.  We are getting together with a great group of people, eating a menu of items that will surely make the list of talked about items later this week and celebrating many accomplishments from the past year.  Some of us have had family pass, some have worked through health concerns, some have found new friends and made successful business relationships.  It overall has been a great year in review.  As I traveled through Mattituck the shopping center parking lot was full.  People were coming and going to prepare for the nights events.  Starbucks had a constant crowd entering and leaving as I waited in line for the ATM.  I ran down to the Mattituck car wash and found the owner pulling out just as I pulled in.  I am sure they were anxious to get home to continue with thier events.  I stopped at the IGA in Southold and found it just as busy as Mattituck. When you watch the people milling about on their separate agenda’s, I took note of the sense of community. Especially as one of the grocery workers helped on of the long term patrons with her cart. She said she was doing fine, she just wanted to move down the line because she finds delight in the young girl on register 2.  It put a smile on my face as I passed by.  As part of my 2008 events, I am running a blog to describe the people, events and community on the North Fork. Here is my first post!
